SB25-003 UPDATE: CPW FINALLY RELEASES MORE DETAILS
Colorado Parks & Wildlife (CPW) has officially published more information on how SB25-003 will be implemented starting August 1, 2026. If you’re planning to purchase certain semiautomatic firearms after that date, there are new hoops to jump through. (Colorado Parks and Wildlife)
What we know so far:
- You’ll need to obtain a Firearms Safety Course Eligibility Card through your local sheriff before taking the required class. (Colorado General Assembly)
- New applicants without hunter education will likely need a 12-hour in-person course spread over at least two days. (Colorado Parks and Wildlife)
- Those with qualifying hunter education may qualify for a shorter 4-hour course. (Colorado Parks and Wildlife)
- A 90% passing score is required on the final exam. (Colorado Parks and Wildlife)
- Existing CCW classes and most other firearms courses do not automatically satisfy the new requirements. (Colorado Parks and Wildlife)
What This Means for Colorado Gun Owners
Federal regulators have been moving toward reducing restrictions in some areas, while Colorado continues adding new requirements for firearm purchases. The result is more paperwork, more training, more fees, and more uncertainty for buyers. (Colorado Parks and Wildlife)
At Damage Factory, we’re already seeing increased interest in ARs, PCCs, home-defense firearms, and training classes as gun owners try to understand what August 2026 will actually look like.
