Tariffs Shake Up Firearms Industry: Imports Hit, U.S. Production Ramps Up

President Trump’s recent tariff announcements are poised to significantly impact the firearms industry, particularly concerning imported firearms, ammunition, and accessories. Effective April 5, 2025, a universal 10% tariff will be applied to all imports, with higher rates targeting specific countries. Notably, imports from China will face a 34% tariff, and those from the European Union will be subject to a 20% tariff.

This development is expected to affect popular brands such as PMC ammunition from South Korea, Benelli, and Beretta firearms from Italy, leading to increased prices for these products in the U.S. market. Additionally, tariffs on raw materials like steel and aluminum, which are essential for firearm and ammunition manufacturing, may further elevate production costs.

In response to these changes, several international manufacturers are planning to increase their U.S.-based production. For instance, Beretta USA has established operations in Tennessee, producing models like the Bobcat, Tomcat, 1301, some 92X handguns, and certain A300 shotguns domestically. Similarly, FN America has been operating in Columbia, South Carolina, focusing on military firearms production.

Supporting U.S.-made products not only helps consumers avoid tariff-induced price increases but also bolsters domestic manufacturing and job creation. As the industry adapts to these new economic conditions, purchasing American-made firearms, ammunition, and accessories becomes increasingly advantageous.
