Through the Grapevine…

Word is circulating that Colorado lawmakers aren’t exactly thrilled with the Big Beautiful Bill at the federal level that wiped out the $200 NFA tax stamp cost. Suppressors, SBRs, and other NFA items just got a whole lot more affordable nationwide — and rumor has it our local politicians are hunting for ways to slap their own restrictions on them. Take it with a grain of salt for now, but don’t be surprised if suppressors end up in their crosshairs during the next session.

What’s Official for 2026
While rumors swirl, here’s what’s already locked in for Colorado next year:

  • Semi-Auto Ban: A sweeping prohibition on the sale and transfer of so-called “assault weapons,” including many AR-15 and AK-pattern rifles, will go into effect. Existing owners may keep theirs, but new purchases will be off the table.

  • 2nd Amendment Right Permit: As of 09/02/2025, Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) does not respond to our requests for the training course detail, guidelines, or the record system. Arapahoe county is still waiting for CPW.

  • Rapid Fire Device Ban: All rapid-fire conversion devices (including bump stocks, binary triggers, and forced-reset triggers) will be prohibited under state law, with penalties for possession and sale. No Grandfather clause!

  • Magazine Limits: The state’s 15-round magazine restriction will remain in place and is expected to face tighter enforcement from FDD.

  • Age Restrictions: New laws raise the age to purchase any semi-automatic rifle to 21, with limited exceptions, is staying despite being challenged in the court.

  • Waiting Period: Colorado will continue its 3-day waiting period on firearm purchases, despite ongoing federal court challenges in neighboring states. More development on the local lawsuit soon!

  • Dealer Oversight: FFLs will face expanded state-level audits and reporting requirements, particularly for transfers of multiple firearms within a short time window.

Bottom Line: NFA items may be the next battleground in Colorado, but even without that fight, 2026 is shaping up to be a tough year for gun owners. Stay plugged in, stay informed, and make your voice heard.
